Drop in any picture and it comes off the press as a two-colour halftone, in this site's ink and oxide. Set the screen, knock the second plate out of register, and take the poster with you.
How it works
A halftone turns tone into dots. The picture is sampled on a grid, and each cell becomes a dot whose size follows how dark that patch of the picture was. From reading distance the dots blend back into tone; up close they are the print.
Two plates are laid, the way a two-colour screen print is pulled. The oxide plate goes down first, fifteen degrees off the ink screen and pushed a few pixels out of register, and the ink plate goes over it. That slip is not a defect to be corrected. It is the one thing that separates a screen print from a filter.
Nothing leaves your browser. The picture is read into a canvas, screened at 1600 pixels on the long edge, and the download is that same canvas with nothing behind the dots, so it sits on any ground you give it. Switch the site to the night run and it presses again in the night inks.
